Soy Wax Candle Burning Tips

Soy Wax Candle Burning Tips

FIRST BURN

Candles have memories so it is important when lighting your candle for the first time to let it burn until the wax melts to the outer edge of the jar.  This will ensure you get the cleanest burn and best burn time with your candle.

Do not trim the wick...our wicks are self trimming.

Candles have memories so it is important when lighting your candle for the first time to let it burn until the wax melts to the outer edge of the jar.  This will ensure you get the cleanest burn and best burn time with your candle.  After your first burn, remember to trim you wick if there starts to be a build up at the end of the wick!

WICKS

We use only all natural fiber wicks and these are self trimming as the candle burns down.  Sometimes, however, a black "mushroom" may appear at the top of the wick.  This is actually unburned carbon that the wick has collected.  Once the candle has cooled you can trim this off if you wish and relight your candle.

NATURAL IMPERFECTIONS

Sometimes candles will have changes in colour or wicks will act up, but these issues are all a result of burning an all natural candle. The following list shows a few naturally occurring imperfections of soy candles and natural fiber wicks. Please keep in mind that none of these will change the scent of your candle.

FROSTING

Frosting is a byproduct of a natural wax, and is caused by the accumulation of tiny crystals on the surfaces of the wax. All soy wax will frost over time, but luckily frosting is solely an aesthetic issue and does not affect the way your candle burns or smells.

BUMPY SURFACE AFTER BURNING

The rough, bumpy tops after burning a soy wax candle are caused when the hot wax in the melt pool cools and solidifies at an inconsistent rate. This is a feature of soy wax, and not a sign you did anything incorrectly.

MUSHROOM

The "mushroom" shape sometimes seen at the end of a candle wick after burning is the result of carbon buildup. This happens when the flame consumes more fuel (wax + fragrance) than it can burn. It's a common occurrence. Remove the mushroom from the tip of the wick with wick trimmers and your candle will burn without any issues.

YELLOWING

Yellowing can occur if the candle gets too much direct sunlight or sits near a fluorescent light. We do not use chemical stabilizers in our candles, which would stop this from happening, but we pride ourselves on offering a chemical free candle. This does not change the scent of the candle.

SHADOWS

Sometimes the wax will pull away from the side of the jar to create a shadow effect. This is a natural occurrence and will not affect the integrity of the candle.
